CINCINNATI, March 20, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Beginning this month, the German thin client market leader IGEL Technology will supply its bestselling IGEL UD3 model with a new housing. With its numerous details, the completely reworked exterior housing not only impresses with its new design but also makes the model easier to handle and more versatile. Thanks to a modular housing concept, the thin client becomes even more flexible and can be used in three possible usage scenarios. For example, it is now possible to save space by affixing the UD3/IZ3 including the optional Connectivity Base to the rear side of a monitor. Other new features include the slim design, a quick-connect VESA mounting, touch-sensitive buttons and the use of a plastic that is even easier to recycle. Equipped with a VIA Eden X2 dual core processor with 1 GHz and up to 2 GB DDR3 RAM, the IGEL UD3/IZ3 has been IGEL's most popular model and Germany's bestselling thin client for years.

The dimensions of the UD3's new housing are now even more compact and can easily be placed on a desk in the workplace environment without taking up needed space. As usual, the thin client can also be attached to the rear side of a monitor. The VESA mounting required for this purpose is available on the new IGEL thin client in both the 75 mm and the 100 mm version. If a user requires additional connectivity, IGEL offers the optional Connectivity Base. The latest version of this features two serial ports and a hidden USB port or, alternatively, two serial ports and an integrated WLAN module. The new version of the UD3/IZ3 with the Connectivity Base attached can be operated on the VESA mounting or on a desk as a standing device.
When it comes to operating components, the buttons and sockets on the front have also been redesigned. In order to eliminate a potential source of wear or faults, the new on/off button is touch-sensitive. This means that it no longer needs to be physically pressed. The new cover for the front USB and audio ports reacts to gentle pressure and is therefore extremely easy to open and close.
And because even the longest-lasting thin client will eventually reach the end of its life, the issue of recycling is always relevant. The new UD3/IZ3 housing scores points here too. Made of a single, durable type of plastic, it makes recycling and disposal easier.
Availability
The new UD3 housing is available now and can easily be integrated into existing UD3 installations. Identical in terms of construction, the IGEL IZ3 zero client series likewise features the new housing.
