IFAW statement on Trump's catastrophic new climate plan
WASHINGTON, March 28, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Peter LaFontaine, Campaigns Manager with the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump's new executive order that seeks to reverse the climate change policies of the Obama administration:
"We are extremely concerned by President Trump's actions today. This executive order essentially puts the planet—and every species that resides on it—on notice.
"This sweeping reversal of climate change policy undermines many hard-fought Obama-era environmental initiatives, giving a green light to the fossil fuel industry to do whatever they please – at the cost of the welfare of billions of humans, wildlife and our planet.
"The Trump administration's lack of acknowledgment, much less concern, for the fragile state of the environment is extremely troubling and will not go unnoticed. Given what's at stake, the environmental and conservation community, including IFAW, is rolling up our sleeves for an all-out defense.
"Fortunately, the Paris Agreement on climate change remains in place for the moment. With this critical accord hanging in the balance, we urge Americans everywhere to voice their concern over today's actions while there is still a chance at saving the planet from irreversible devastation."
