IFAW statement on Ringling Brother's announcement to eliminate elephants from circus performances
WASHINGTON, March 5, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The International Fund for Animal Welfare's (IFAW - www.ifaw.org) Jeff Flocken responds to Feld Entertainment's decision to eliminate elephants from its Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus performances.
"The use of elephants and other iconic animals for entertainment purposes has over time garnered public disapproval and we applaud Ringling Brothers' decision to phase out Asian elephants from their performance lineup," said Jeff Flocken, IFAW North American Regional Director. "This is a giant step in the right direction and we hope that they will take the next important step by calling for the end of circuses using big cats like tigers and lions in their shows."
