NEW YORK, Feb. 18, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IEEE, the world's largest technical professional organization, today launched the App-E-Feat promotion, centered around a website that matches organizations aligned with the IEEE mission of advancing technology for humanity with engineers to create mobile apps. App-E-Feat is being launched as part of IEEE's Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) Commitment to Action.
"Technology plays a vital role in furthering community and environmental interests and we're eager to connect IEEE engineers and students with organizations they can help in profound ways," said E. James Prendergast, Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer of IEEE. "The mobile apps created through App-E-Feat connections will foster new opportunities and solutions for the people they serve."
To celebrate the launch of App-E-Feat and Engineers Week, IEEE-USA is hosting a contest on the App-E-Feat website inviting all engineers, organizations and students to help create mobile apps for the chance to win an iPad Air and access to an expert IEEE mentor. The App-E-Feat contest launches today and will run through May 19.
"App-E-Feat is more than a year in the making and was inspired by President Clinton's 2013 comments discussing the impact and potential of mobile apps for causes around the world," said Karen Panetta, IEEE Fellow and Vice President of IEEE-USA, and Associate Dean at Tufts Graduate School of Engineering. "IEEE-USA is launching the App-E-Feat contest during Engineers Week to inspire both engineers and the next generation of STEM professionals to find ways to leverage their expertise to benefit humanity."
Through App-E-Feat, organizations can request mobile applications to help realize or scale their goals. The site matches the organizations with IEEE engineers and students who can then create mobile applications for the listed projects, based on the organizations and causes of their choosing, aligned with the following nine CGI missions: The Built Environment, Education and Workforce, Energy, Environmental Stewardship, Girls & Women, Global Health, Market-based Approaches, Response and Resilience and Technology.
Interested organizations and engineers should visit AppEFeat.org to learn more, request a mobile app or design a mobile app.
