SEATTLE, May 30, 2012 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Infectious Disease Research Institute (IDRI) has officially signed a new lease in Seattle's South Lake Union neighborhood with long-time real estate partner Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. IDRI intends to relocate in mid-2013 from its current location on First Hill to its new headquarters at 1616 Eastlake Avenue, where it will occupy approximately 55,000 square feet, principally on the fourth floor of the building.

The new lease presents a unique opportunity for IDRI to consolidate its research, development, and translational science programs housed within the organization. Currently, IDRI's rapidly growing numbers of staff are spread across three floors of a two-building complex, making conditions for teamwork within the organization an increasing challenge. IDRI's new 1616 Eastlake space will unite almost all science onto one floor, creating a more conducive environment for collaboration and innovation.
The new headquarters are currently undergoing architectural restructuring to meet IDRI's needs, both now and into the future. Once completed, the majority of the new space will contain general laboratory facilities, as well as specialized spaces such as a GMP manufacturing suite, rooms for drug discovery robotics, and IDRI's new Human Immune Monitoring Center.
The new location will put IDRI at closer proximity to many of the organization's partners and the region's leaders in science and technology. Additionally, the new space creates strong opportunities for branding and increasing IDRI's capacity to attract new talent, which symbolize the organization's growing role as a global leader in product development and translation science for neglected diseases of poverty.
"IDRI is delighted to announce its move into this new facility," said Stewart Parker, IDRI's Chief Executive Officer. "After almost 20 years of world class research and expansion of our pipeline of global health products, we are excited to bring everyone at IDRI into a single, state of the art facility, as well to join the growing global health community located in Seattle's South Lake Union area. We are deeply appreciative of Alexandria's effort to work closely with IDRI and help us identify this excellent new location."
"Alexandria is proud to participate in IDRI's continued growth and success," said Joel S. Marcus, Chief Executive Officer at Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc. "We have had a close partnership with IDRI for more than a decade and view this relationship as a unique opportunity to help advance cutting-edge technologies that will address the significant burden of infectious diseases to society."
