ID.me and Udemy Join Forces to Help the Veteran & Military Communities Learn New Skills
New program guarantees lifelong 50% discount on all Udemy courses
SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Udemy, the leading global marketplace for learning and teaching online, today announced it has partnered with ID.me, the digital identity verification service founded by veterans, to launch a new program aimed at helping veterans and military community members learn the skills they need to meet their personal and professional goals. The program features a lifelong 50 percent discount for all military community members, as well as a $10 Udemy course credit for signing up.
ID.me was founded by two veterans as a tool that allows consumers to prove who they are online while controlling how their information is shared with brands. This enables members of the military and more to securely submit and prove their identities online, giving them access to hundreds of discounts and exclusive savings they could previously only receive in-store. This partnership enables members of the veteran and military community registered with ID.me to take advantage of Udemy's thousands of course offerings to adopt new skills on everything from career development and coding to accounting and Microsoft Excel. According to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics earlier this year, unemployment among post-9/11 veterans remains at 9 percent, well above the national average.
"High unemployment rates among veterans are a substantial challenge facing America and we wanted to do what we could to help our service members attain the skills they need to be successful long after leaving the military," said Dennis Yang, CEO of Udemy. "We felt particularly moved to get involved because many members of the Udemy community - students and instructors alike - are current and former service members. We stand behind them and are grateful every day for their courage in protecting our nation."
The program officially launched yesterday, November 11. Service members and veterans who are verified through ID.me's technology will then be able to access a link for $10 of Udemy credit for creating an account, followed by a lifelong 50 percent discount on all courses. Udemy is home to more than 20,000 courses taught by everyday experts.
