IDG Computerworld Names Sherwin-Williams IT to 2011 List of 100 Best Places to Work in IT for the Third Year in a Row: #58/100
S-W IT team is driven by its unlimited ability to innovate
CLEVELAND, June 24, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE: SHW) today announced IDG Computerworld named the S-W IT team to its 2011 List of 100 Best Places to Work in IT for the third year in a row.
The recognition spotlights Sherwin-Williams IT human capital excellence.
Tom Lucas, Sherwin-Williams Chief Information Officer said, "We are very pleased that IDG Computerworld has recognized our very talented IT team that's committed to innovation and providing outstanding customer service to our 32,000 S-W associates around the world. Our S-W IT team is driven by its unlimited ability to innovate. We're also proud of our nationally recognized IT Professional Apprentice (TM) program which helps students acquire real-world skills that give them an added edge in the workplace."
Computerworld national correspondent Rob Mitchell wrote: "Think of it as an IT career with a splash of color. For Denis Hart, one of the great things about working for paint manufacturer Sherwin-Williams Co. has been the opportunity for travel that its rapidly expanding global business presents. Hart, lead analyst for the Unix Server Group, recently took advantage of several opportunities to travel to Italy and South America to support IT projects. 'Those things keep it fresh for me,' he says."
But it's the culture of innovation and respect that has kept him here for 13 years. IT is accepted as part of the effort to drive sales. In a meeting, says CIO Tom Lucas, "You'd be hard-pressed to distinguish between a marketing and an IT person. We're very attuned to the business." And as the company continues to grow — IT will expand staff by 8% this year — there are plenty of opportunities to work with the latest technologies, says Hart. "We're more on the leading edge than we've ever been before. The amount of change happening has only accelerated."
