Ideum Updates and Stress Tests its Line of Ruggedized Multitouch Tables
CORRALES, N.M., Nov. 3, 2011 /PRNewswire/ -- Ideum has announced significant upgrades and improvements to its MT55 series of 55" multitouch tables. The powerful MT55 Pro and the sleek MT55 Platform both have improved processors, increased storage capacity, refinements to the hardened case, and additional connectivity ports.

Along with these improvements, Ideum has released a dramatic video showing just how tough and impact resistant the MT55 series multitouch tables are. In the video a 13.8-pound bowling ball is dropped from 18 inches onto the multitouch table surface.
"When Surface 2.0 ® was announced, Microsoft bragged that they could 'drop a beer bottle' on Surface ® from 18 inches without making so much as a dent.(1) We dropped a 13-pound bowling ball and drank the beer," said Jim Spadaccini Founder and CEO of Ideum. "Apparently, Microsoft has a different interpretation of 'ruggedized.' We just couldn't let that go. We had a lot of fun with this."
As the "bowling ball test" demonstrates Ideum's multitouch tables are truly ruggedized for public display: built from aircraft-grade aluminum, cold-rolled steel and protected by a hardened glass surface. This level of stress testing ensures that the Ideum MT55 series will meet or exceed the demands of busy public environments blending strength, high performance and exceptional design into a plug-and-play form factor.

Both the MT55 Platform and the powerful MT55 Pro now ships standard with an Intel i7 processor, which adds a 30% performance boost to the previous base model MT55 Platform and a 20% boost to the MT55 Pro. Additionally, the base model of each table will now ship with double the previous storage capacity, all for the same price.
Along with more power both tables have improved connectivity with multiple HDMI ports, USB, audio, Bluetooth and wireless connections. Single push button operation allows the table to be set up and operational in about a minute.
