SAN FRANCISCO, March 1, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Particle, the most widely used Internet of Things (IoT) platform, has been named a Major Player in a new research report released by IDC titled, "IDC MarketScape: Worldwide IoT Platforms (Device and Network Connectivity Providers) 2018 Vendor Assessment." The report names Particle as a Major Player alongside global telecom giants and underscores that "Particle's customers are enthusiastic about the product, which helped the company achieve the highest overall ratings from its customer base."
The IDC MarketScape report also calls out that Particle has "a large, vibrant developer community" of 140,000 of which builds on their hardware and software offerings for IoT deployments. This was Particle's first inclusion in the report, and the only inclusion from an early-stage company. The report also notes customers' appreciation for the flexibility and openness of the Particle platform, in addition to the company's collaborative relationship with its customers.
"Particle's goal is to ease IoT solution development through products that integrate hardware, connectivity and the cloud," says Stacy Crook, Research Director for IoT research at IDC. "This focus, along with Particle's significant traction with the developer community, were two key factors leading to Particle's inclusion in a report otherwise characterized by long standing companies in the IoT space."
IDC MarketScape evaluated 11 vendors participating in the worldwide IoT platform market that include connectivity management as part of its offerings. Analysts draw on detailed surveys and interviews with the vendors, publicly available information, and end-user experiences to provide an accurate and consistent assessment of each vendor. Research parameters are based on vendors' conduciveness to success in the short-term and long-term.
"It's always been our goal to enable our customers around the world to bring their products online, helping them realize the benefit of the IoT," said Zach Supalla, Particle co-founder and CEO. "It's rewarding to see our enthusiastic community and our vision for Particle recognized in such a highly regarded industry report, especially amongst some of the biggest players in the space. We're looking forward to seeing what the community will connect next using Particle Mesh."
Accolades from the IDC MarketScape come on the heels of Particle's recent launch of their next-generation product line, Particle Mesh, built to enhance IoT reliability, scale networks and reduce costs.
