IDB Inducts 2016-2017 Executive Fellows
WASHINGTON, Sept. 9, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Institute for Defense and Business (IDB) announced its 2016-2017 class of IDB Executive Fellows at an induction ceremony Wednesday at the Army and Navy Club in Washington, DC. The Executive Fellows Program is a unique opportunity for selected retired senior leaders from the Department of Defense, the Department of Homeland Security, and the military services to share their knowledge and experience with participants in the IDB's educational programs. For the twelfth consecutive year, analytics software provider SAS sponsored the program.
The IDB Board of Directors hosted the ceremony where the Honorable James G. Martin, former North Carolina Governor and chairman of the IDB Board oversaw the event. United States Congressman David Price (D-NC) provided opening remarks to the attendees from private industry, government agencies, the military, non-governmental organizations, and academia.
Glenn Edelschein, Director of Strategic Initiatives at SAS Federal, also addressed the group.
"The knowledge and experience the Executive Fellows bring to the IDB classroom is key to developing the next generation of defense leaders," said Edelschein. "We are proud to support this program because we know it will impact the ability of these emerging leaders to meet and exceed their mission objectives."
Five executive fellows were inducted this year:
- General Duncan J. McNabb, USAF (Ret)
- Lieutenant General William M. Faulkner, USMC (Ret)
- Vice Admiral Mark D. Harnitchek, USN (Ret)
- Rear Admiral Richard T. Gromlich, USCG (Ret)
- Mr. Donald C. Tison, SES, USA (Ret)
"The Executive Fellows are an integral part of the fabric of our IDB programs," said MG (Ret) Jim Hodge, President of the IDB. "They contribute in many ways to our educational programs and research. Above all, Fellows become personally invested in the growth and development of those who attend IDB programs."
Fellows are selected based on their expertise, experience, and exceptional records of accomplishment. They are involved in IDB programs, serving as guest lecturers, mentors and coaches to program attendees. They also work with IDB faculty on key academic case studies and research, and serve as advisors on a spectrum of issues.
The ceremony also included the presentation of the annual General William G.T. Tuttle, Jr., USA (Ret) Award for Business Acumen in Defense and Government. The GEN Tuttle Award was established in 2000 by the IDB to recognize alumni who apply concepts learned in an IDB program to achieve outstanding results for their organization.
This year's recipients are the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard's National Industrial Enterprise (NIE) Workforce, Component of the Surface Forces Logistics Center, Industrial Operations Division.
Successfully navigating the largest Business Process Reengineering initiative in Coast Guard history, valued at $330 million dollars, the men and women of the NIE unified and modernized the organization to directly support and exemplify the Deputy Commandant for Mission Support (DCMS) mission support business model of total asset visibility, bi-level maintenance, configuration management, and product line management.
Contributing to the success of this massive effort were logistics and business acumen principles obtained by members of the U.S. Coast Guard while attending the LOGTECH Advanced Program in Logistics and Technology. IDB alumni include CAPT Jeffrey Good, CDR Travis Rasmussen, and LCDR Brook Sherman.
Adding to the significance of the accolade, General Tuttle was there in person to present the award. CAPT Good and LCDR Sherman accepted the award on behalf of the Workforce.
