Idaho Virtual Academy Begins 2010 Online School Year
Enrollment Still Open to New Students for the Upcoming School Year
BOISE, Idaho, Aug. 30 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- On Wednesday, September 1, Idaho Virtual Academy (IDVA) students head back to school. Traditional buses or backpacks are not needed; instead students will power up their computers and log on back to school for the official start of the 2010-2011 school year. Using the award winning K12 curriculum, Idaho Virtual Academy is a public online charter school serving students in Kindergarten through high school across the state of Idaho. With this innovative learning program, IDVA and K12 provide an education to students that meets or exceeds state standards.
IDVA will also open the Treasure Valley Hybrid Program beginning September 1st. The program provides center-based support for students who have challenges that make school difficult. This new hybrid option (some center time plus some home-based time) is designed to help students be successful and to help them graduate with their class. Students must meet state alternative criteria to attend the Treasure Valley Hybrid Program. Students will be scheduled to come to the center at least two, three-hour sessions per week to get direct instruction in math and English and to get support in all subject areas.
"We all know not every child learns in the same way or at the same pace. Idaho Virtual Academy's online public school program and new Hybrid Program are specifically customized for each child's preference," said Desiree Laughlin, Head of School at Idaho Virtual Academy. "We are here to help kids succeed in school and we look forward to beginning this school year as well as the kickoff of our new Hybrid Program."
Students at the Idaho Virtual Academy receive a complete curriculum, lesson planning programs, books and instructional materials, the use of a computer, and subsidized Internet access – all delivered right to their doorstep. IDVA uses the nationally-acclaimed curriculum and academic program developed by K12 Inc., the nation's largest provider of curriculum and online school programs for students in kindergarten through high school. At IDVA, students are able to receive a complete, high quality education at home, on the road, or wherever an Internet connection can be found.
With the use of technology, IDVA presents an engaging curriculum that informs students about the world around them. This unique multimedia approach also utilizes traditional books, novels, workbooks, and other instructional and learning materials for a truly balanced approach toward education.
Idaho Virtual Academy also provides an extensive support system for parents and students. Teachers provide instruction, guidance and support, and regularly interact with students and parents via email, web-based classrooms, online discussions, phone, and face-to-face meetings. Teachers also organize numerous field trips and school activities.
IDVA is still accepting K-8 enrollment applicants until February. Enrollment for the second semester of IDVA virtual high school begins in October. The Treasure Valley Hybrid Program will continue to be open for enrollment for grades 7-12. The Hybrid Program also offers Credit Recovery courses to high school students who want to re-enter school or transfer after September 1. IDVA is hosting multiple events for students and teachers, as well as online showcases and information sessions. For a complete list of events and information on enrollment, visit www.K12.com/idva.
