Idaho Potato Commission to the Rescue! Give Your Favorite Potato Recipes a Healthy Makeover
Consumers Can Win Grocery Store Gift Cards and Fresh Idaho® Potatoes for Their Recipe Submissions
EAGLE, Idaho, Nov. 22, 2013 /PRNewswire/ -- Just in time for the holidays, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) launched Russet Recipe Rescue, an opportunity for consumers to lighten up one of their favorite Idaho® potato recipes and win fresh Idaho® potatoes and supermarket gift cards valued at $100 each.
Communicating the healthfulness of Idaho® potatoes has been a priority of the IPC for the last decade. "Idaho® potatoes are one of the healthiest vegetables in the produce department, but sometimes they get a bad rap simply because of how they're prepared," explained Frank Muir, President and CEO, IPC. "From sponsoring events that promote physical fitness to having Idaho® potatoes certified as a heart-healthy food by the American Heart Association to creating recipes catered to specific diets, we want consumers to know that Idaho® potatoes play an important role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle." Consumers are asked to submit their favorite not-so-healthy Idaho® potato recipes to the website by December 15th. A registered dietitian will review the submissions and identify five that are in the greatest need of a rescue. The recipes will be revised to include healthier ingredients that don't compromise the taste. "Consumers no longer need to sacrifice flavor for healthfulness," explained Mindy Hermann, Registered Dietitian. "There are many easy changes and substitutions they can make to their existing recipes that reduce the fat and calorie content without compromising taste. Potato recipes are the easiest to rescue – potatoes are naturally good for you and versatile enough to be combined with almost any flavor or food." Established in 1937, the Idaho Potato Commission (IPC) is a state agency that is responsible for promoting and protecting the famous "Grown in Idaho®" seal, a federally registered trademark that assures consumers they are purchasing genuine, top-quality Idaho® potatoes. Idaho's growing season of warm days and cool nights, ample mountain–fed irrigation and rich volcanic soil, give Idaho® potatoes their unique texture, taste and dependable performance. These ideal growing conditions are what differentiate Idaho® potatoes from potatoes grown in other states. For more information, visit: www.idahopotato.com.
