ICS Security Expert and SANS Instructor, Robert M. Lee, Named to Forbes' 30 Under 30
BETHESDA, Md., Jan. 7, 2016 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- SANS Institute, the global leader in information security training, is honored to announce one of its instructors, Robert M. Lee, has been named to Forbes Magazine's 2016 30 Under 30 list in the enterprise technology category. Forbes created this list to celebrate stand-out entrepreneurs, like Lee, who are making an impact in software, cybersecurity, networking, computer science and the cloud.
Lee cofounded Dragos Security to produce a better way to protect Industrial control systems (ICS) and passively monitor networked assets. At just 27, Lee has already had a busy career as a cyber defense expert. He dug up national security threats while an Air Force officer in Cyber Warfare Operations and in the intelligence community, and still teaches and researches at the SANS Institute. While juggling his work at Dragos, Lee is a nonresident National Cybersecurity Fellow at New America and a PhD candidate at Kings College London focusing on research in control system cyber security and cyber conflict. Lee also co-writes a comic strip on technology and security called Little Bobby.
"Robert's contribution to the ICS community, from his light hearted comics to his passion for teaching, sharing, and helping, is what distinguishes him as a 30 under 30 achiever," commented Michael Assante, ICS and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) security lead at SANS. "It can take a professional a lifetime to learn the lesson that empowering others is more important than your own direct contribution. Rob dove into this challenge with that mantra and he has made a measurable contribution to protecting our critical infrastructure."
Lee will continue to share his knowledge during the ICS Security Summit and Training taking place February 16 – 23 in Orlando, Florida where he will present his new course ICS515: ICS Active Defense and Incident Response. This SANS course was designed to empower students to understand their networked industrial control system environment, monitor it for threats, perform incident response against identified threats, and learn from interactions with the adversary to enhance network security.
