ICP And Huawei Begin A Global Visual Conversation Celebrating The Diversity Of Humanity
Partnership Kicks Off in Late October 2017; Includes Worldwide Photo Contest, Participation in ICP Museum's Projected Series, and Innovative "Talk In Images" Program
NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- The International Center of Photography (ICP), the world's leading institution dedicated to photography and visual culture, today revealed its new cross-platform partnership with Huawei, the third largest smartphone brand in the world. This exciting collaboration celebrates the power of photography and is meant to engage talented imagemakers from around the world in a global dialogue.
The partnership kicks off with the Huawei NEXT-IMAGE Awards, a contest fostering the next generation of photographers, all of whom are using the next generation of tools in the creation and spreading of visual content. Visual creatives from around the world using Huawei mobile phones are encouraged to submit images within seven categories: @All; Me, Myself & I; Hello, Life!; Check-In; Citizen Witness; 3x3; and Timeline. The call for entries ends on November 20; the winners will be announced in late December. A cash award will be presented to the winner. The second component of the partnership—"Talk In Images"—will launch in early November and creates a global dialogue utilizing smartphone imagery. Focusing on a series of topics, "Talk In Images" embraces the concept of photography as a universal language. This visual exploration and research experiment aims to assess the power of imagery to launch meaningful, socially engaged, and conscientious conversations on a global scale. Through this exchange, ICP looks to consider how people respond to images as a way to analyze the human psyche and discover an arc of images through visual expression.
One week each month, between November and June, the submitted images will be curated and showcased—grouped by themes including food, home, love, work, and more—as part of the ICP Projected program at the ICP Museum (250 Bowery). By day, the work will be presented on monitors inside the Museum; after dark, the images will be "projected" onto the windows of the Museum.
