NEW YORK and LONDON, December 16, 2013 /PRNewswire/ --
ICIS Chemical Business magazine has revealed the ICIS Top 40 Power Players, a ranking of the senior executives having the greatest positive impact on the global chemical sector through capital investments, mergers and acquisitions, portfolio restructuring and innovation.
This year's ICIS Top 40 Power Players is sponsored by executive search firm CTPartners.
"The global chemical landscape is shifting dramatically with the competitive advantages and challenges presented by US shale gas, as well as slower economic growth rates in many regions," said Joseph Chang, Global Editor of ICIS Chemical Business (http://www.icis.com/magazine).
"Leaders are seeking to meet the challenge of achieving long-term growth by accelerating portfolio transformations," he added.
Taking the top spot once again in 2013 is Andrew Liveris, chairman, president and CEO of US-based Dow Chemical. He also held the #1 spot in 2012. In the #2 slot is Saudia Aramco CEO Khalid Al-Falih, followed by INEOS CEO Jim Ratcliffe as #3 in the listing.
"Liveris is leading the charge in making major investments in the key feedstock advantaged regions of the US and Middle East. At the same time he is actively targeting divestitures to concentrate on businesses with higher growth and margin prospects," said Chang.
The ICIS Top 40 Power Players rankings are based on nominations and votes from the ICIS senior editorial staff globally.
"This recognition is evidence of Dow's shift to deliver as an innovative growth enterprise delivering high-value and high-profit solutions at the intersections of polymer, materials and biological science," said Dow Chemical chairman, president and CEO Andrew Liveris.
"Our strategy is simple. Today, Dow is a chemistry company, building on a foundation of integrated operational excellence - notably on the US Gulf Coast, and in our Sadara joint venture in Saudi Arabia - and by fine-tuning our focus by pointing our incredible arsenal of technologies at key end-use markets, delivering value to our customers and generating significant value growth for our shareholders," Liveris added.
