Russian independent natural gas producers, such as NOVATEK and oil incumbent Rosneft, led by powerful political figures are squeezing gas major Gazprom on the domestic market. Following the liberalisation of Russian LNG exports in November 2013 voices are heard calling for lifting pipeline gas monopoly too.
