ICIS Heren Launches Several New Price Series in Fortnightly Gas Publication
LONDON, October 14, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- ICIS Heren is pleased to announce the launch of several new price series in its European Gas Markets report.
The publication now carries, for the first time, an 18-month forward curve assessing the value of long-term gas supply contracts into Europe. The value of pipeline contracts into Germany from the Netherlands, Russia and Norway is assessed, along with the Algerian LNG contract price into Spain.
The new price series respond to the changes in long-term contract structures in the last year and aim to give companies a practical guide to the typical value of these contracts on the forwards market.
"Given the volume of gas still traded on long-term contracts and their influence over the traded hubs, these assessments are vital for anybody analysing or trading European OTC gas markets," said Ben Essex, lead energy analyst at ICIS Heren.
The assessments are sourced from individual contract details as well as analysis of visible price data that allows us to imply a "typical" formula for some of Europe's largest volume import points.
The increasing flexibility of supply contracts and diversity of formulae have made assessments of individual contracts less relevant. As well as larger numbers of competitors downstream sourcing gas from the upstream, there has been a sharp shift towards spot price indexation in many contracts since the end of 2009.
"The traditional preference for oil indexation - that has stymied the evolution of long-term contract pricing towards gas indexation - is changing. Our new quotes apply a methodology that reflects these ongoing changes," said James Allpress, managing editor of European Gas Markets.
European Gas Markets has launched its new contract prices series to enable companies to navigate the shifting contract environment in a more practical way.
