Vodafone Iceland in late 2017 secured regulatory approval for its acquisition of most of the telecoms and media interests of 365 Media, which has struggled in the telecoms sector in recent years. The new entrant Nova has become the leading player in the mobile market, and has quickly expanded its presence in the fixed-line segment.

The telecom market retained some resilience following the economic downturn of 2008, and it has continued to show solid growth in recent years, supported by continuing investment in mobile and fixed-line broadband infrastructure.
