Ice Energy Brings New Clean Energy Manufacturing Jobs to Upstate New York
WINDSOR, Colo., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Ice Energy, a leading provider of smart grid-enabled advanced energy storage solutions to the electric utility industry, today announced a partnership with Mercury Corporation of Hammondsport, New York to expand the company's manufacturing capacity to meet growing backlog for its Ice Bear energy storage systems.
The initiative brings important new clean energy manufacturing jobs to upstate New York, and delivers on the promise of a Federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) economic stimulus grant awarded to Ice Energy earlier this year in the form of Advanced Energy Manufacturing Tax Credits. Significantly, these family-wage jobs, including skilled mechanical and electrical assembly workers, represent re-training and re-employment opportunities for local workers in the region.
A number of New York State elected officials and industry leaders offered statements of support for the new venture between Ice Energy and Mercury:
"This partnership between Ice Energy and Mercury Corporation is proof that Recovery Act investments in advanced technologies and clean energy are paying off by creating jobs and stimulating our economy. At the same time, Ice Energy is introducing smart grid and energy storage solutions which will go a long way towards improving our energy efficiency, which will save money, reduce our usage of fossil fuels, and protect the environment."

"The partnership between New York's Mercury Corporation and Ice Energy is good news for consumers and for New York. Energy storage and smart grid technologies are essential for helping to reduce energy costs and peak electric requirements, while helping New York achieve the ambitious energy and environmental sustainability goals envisioned by Governor David Paterson. I thank the Obama Administration and New York's Congressional delegation for their work in supporting the energy initiatives in the federal stimulus package that are helping to make this development possible."

"New York already has a number of major companies, like IBM, GE and CA, who are leading the development of the smart grid. It is exciting to strengthen New York with the addition of a promising young company like Ice Energy and the expansion and evolution of an established one like Mercury Manufacturing, bringing new permanent jobs to Upstate New York. The importance of storage to the development of the grid, the integration of renewables, and our sustainable energy future can't be underestimated. The combined resources and expertise of these two companies are significant assets for New York and demonstrate the importance of new technologies to economic development in the region."

"This new manufacturing partnership represents an important economic victory for our region at a time when good economic news has been hard to come by for our workers and their families. It's clearly a well-deserved and well-earned tribute to the quality of the Mercury Corporation. This exciting venture between Mercury and Ice Energy promises to produce badly needed, private-sector manufacturing jobs and stands to strengthen our region's position in the emerging clean energy economy."
New York State Senator George Winner, (R-C-I, Elmira) |

"Ice Energy's announcement of expanding its manufacturing efforts through an agreement with Mercury Corporation is welcome news. It will mean good-paying jobs for our workers and provide New York with a source of clean energy sector development our manufacturers are capable of handling. I'm pleased Ice Energy is coming to New York and I'm confident the company will find a good working partner in Mercury Corporation. The company's smart-grid technology helps address New York's renewable energy goal wherein 30 percent of the electricity used in the state will come from renewable energy sources by 2015."

"Ice Energy's announcement is welcome and exciting news that proves a strong commitment to environmental, energy and jobs programs makes New York well-positioned to succeed in the clean energy economy. This is exactly the kind of investment the New York State Apollo Alliance, a coalition of labor, business and environmental groups working to create green collar jobs, has been urging. Ice Energy demonstrates that energy storage and smart grid technology will be a growing part of the economic revitalization of Upstate New York as a center of clean and green technology development and deployment."
