"As the world's leading patent sellers, we are excited to be offering this entertainment industry lighting management portfolio to our global base of buyers," says Dean Becker, CEO of ICAP Patent Brokerage. "This IP package will offer theatrical lighting technicians and companies more alternatives and added functionality in lighting control options."
Key Characteristics & Benefits
Theatrical lighting is used in various applications, such as live performances and movie and television production. Generally, the lights used in theatrical lighting are controlled by dimmers that are remotely located from the light due to high temperatures and noise. This type of system uses direct hardwiring and light protocols to control lighting but limits the number of dimmers that can be used. Further, this type of outdated system doesn't provide real time or remote monitoring of lighting systems.
The intellectual property package offered for auction improves upon hardwired methods by controlling theatrical lighting through the use of a computer-based LAN. Lighting is controlled using a master controller and associated display or by peripheral devices over a LAN. The master controller delivers outputs that are used to connect to dimmer racks that provide a connection to the LAN through network interface cards. The dimmer racks are connected to the master controller through a node controller that provides conversion of network management for controlling the dimmers or the lighting. Therefore, the lighting can be remotely administered through the master controller over the computer network.
