Begins pro bono Corporate Service Corps consulting engagement; to include curricula recommendations for cognitive and cloud computing, Internet of Things, and supercomputing in support of a more prepared workforce

TARGU MURES, Romania, May 5, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced the start of a pro bono IBM Corporate Service Corps consulting engagement here with projects supporting cognitive computing, economic development, higher education, science, and diversity.

This is the sixth such deployment to Romania of IBM Corporate Service Corps, which help communities worldwide by engaging local government, business and civic leaders on initiatives of vital importance.

The 12-member team, comprising some of IBM's most talented employees from the U.S., Australia, Peru, Philippines, Japan, India, Costa Rica, and Taiwan, will spend one month here working with local organizations, and make short and long term recommendations in support of their key initiatives.

IBM will work with the following organizations:

University of Medicine and Pharmacy Targu Mures - The IBM team will help the organization develop a blueprint for identifying and implementing teaching and research activities on technology topics ranging from cognitive computing and Internet of things, to cloud and high performance computing.

Petru Maior University Targu Mures - IBM will make recommendations for creating a regional high performance computing center that will power cutting-edge research projects.

Divers Association - For this not-for profit organization -- which promotes cultural, ethnic, gender, social, linguistic, and religious diversity, guided by principles of human rights, democratic values, equal opportunities, non-violence, and citizenship -- IBM will develop a strategy to expand its Women's Academy project.

East European Institute for Reproductive Health - IBM will help the organization develop an outreach strategy for a campaign to improve the lives of people at risk of being targets of violence.

By the end of 2017, IBM Corporate Service Corps will have dispatched approximately 3,500 IBM employees to nearly 40 countries -- making this pro bono problem solving program one of the world's largest.
