ARMONK, N.Y., April 19, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- IBM (NYSE: IBM) today unveiled Ustream eCDN, a software solution for enterprises to support the growing and widespread use of internal, streaming video. Ustream eCDN is designed to reduce the impact of video traffic on an enterprise network, enabling businesses of any size to deliver high quality streaming video throughout their organization while maintaining network performance.
While video has become an essential mode of communication at the enterprise level, implementing, managing and scaling an internal video strategy presents unique technical challenges to network stability. Organizations that need to stream large-scale events like town hall meetings, training sessions, and all-hands meetings are required to provide a seamless and engaging viewing experience for their employees, while simultaneously keeping internal networks performing at optimal levels. Ustream eCDN is designed to help alleviate these challenges by reducing the strain posed by streaming video on enterprise networks, helping to postpone or possibly even eliminate the need for network capacity upgrades.
The service currently in beta, is being leveraged by the New York State Senate. "Ustream's eCDN solution has helped us meet the New York State Senate's growing demand for streaming video without degrading our network performance," said Jim Bell, Director, Senate Technology Services at New York State Senate.
"At the enterprise level, video presents a unique opportunity for organizations to engage employees, enhance productivity, and streamline overall business processes," said Brad Hunstable, Founder and CEO of Ustream, an IBM company. "The ability to instantaneously share information at the organizational level creates connections between leadership and staff that are crucial to your bottom line. Ustream eCDN will help businesses, governmental agencies, and educational institutions to unlock the value that video can bring with a new level of scale and reliability."
Installed as a virtual server within a company's firewall, Ustream eCDN delivers a single instance of a video asset – live or on-demand – that is cached and served to viewers who need to access it on the network. When streaming to large audiences, the ability to reduce the number of these connections is crucial to managing internal network bandwidth.
Ustream eCDN is designed to work with Ustream's enterprise streaming video solutions such as Ustream Align, the company's internal video platform, and will be offered as an optional service. Ustream eCDN will be available on the market in Q2 of this year.
