IAmElemental, Creator of Action Figures for Girls, Completes Funding Campaign & Launches Online Store
Toy Company's Realistic Female Role Models Make Every Girl a Superhero
NEW YORK, June 23, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- IAmElemental (http://www.iamelemental.com), the startup toy company developing action figures for girls, today announced the successful completion of its initial 30-day funding campaign and the launch of its online store. After reaching its funding goal of $35,000 in the first 48 hours, the company raised a total of $162,906.79 from 2,520 Kickstarter supporters in all 50 US states and on six continents. It is now 465% funded.
Proceeds from the campaign will be used to finalize development and production of the company's first set of collectible female action figures: Series #1/Courage. The series includes seven unique figures that personify the Elements of Courage: Bravery, Energy, Honesty, Industry, Enthusiasm, Persistence and Fear.
Series #1 figures and related merchandise are now available for pre-order in the new online store at http://www.iamelemental.com and are scheduled to ship in advance of the 2014 holiday season. The figures will also be available in stores, retailing in individual mystery packs and as complete sets of seven figures in collectible tins or carry cases.
"In our funding campaign, we set out to test our hypothesis that a market exists for realistic action figures for girls. We are so grateful to all of our amazing backers, who share our belief that if you give a girl a different toy, she will tell a different story," said IAmElemental co-founder Julie Kerwin.
"Our figures enable girls to be the protagonists in their own story and become their own superheroes," said company co-founder Dawn Nadeau. "Following the launch of our first four-inch series this year, we will give girls more play options in 2015, when we release a second series as well as a new line of hyper-articulated six-inch figures."
Incorporated in September 2013, privately held IAmElemental is the market's sole producer of collectible action figures designed specifically for girls. For more information, visit http://www.iamelemental.com.
About IAmElemental: IAmElemental, based in New York City, was founded in 2013 by Julie Kerwin and Dawn Nadeau, Wellesley College alumni, to fill a gap in the toy market. IAmElemental envisions girls as the creators of a play experience in which they are the active agents in a story of their own design. Kerwin, who holds a J.D. from Fordham Law School and has a background in education, was previously the cofounder of independent music label Club Rock Records. Nadeau was an early team member at Fast Company magazine and has worked at Fortune magazine and Goldman Sachs. Both are mothers -- Kerwin of boys, Nadeau of girls. Both believe literacy is the ultimate superpower. "If you give a girl a different toy, she will tell a different story"; "Play with power"; "It's character, not characters"; "Shared, everyone's powers grow stronger"; and "We have superpowers.
