IABC Detroit to Recognize Communications "Superheroes" at 2018 Renaissance Award Event Oct. 29
Afterglow includes Halloween Bash with food, music and games
MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich., Oct. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire/ -- Honorees wearing red capes or carrying thunderous hammers and golden lassos may take the stage as the International Association of Business Communicators recognizes communication industry superheroes at the 2018 (IABC) Detroit Renaissance Awards program from 5:30-9 p.m. Oct. 29 at Urbanrest Brewing Co., 2615 Wolcott St., in Ferndale.
"We used a superhero theme this year to draw attention to the talents of modern-day communicators who must think strategically, act quickly and often leap tall deadlines in a single bound to achieve organizational objectives," said Heather Guenther, president, IABC Detroit.
Sixteen awards will be given in four Communication disciplines: Management, Research, Training/Education and Skills. Each entry is reviewed by two evaluators who are seasoned communications professionals familiar with the IABC seven-point global scale of excellence. Entries must fall within a threshold to qualify for an IABC Detroit Renaissance Award of Excellence or Award of Merit.
At the event, Curt McAllister, manager, Midwestern Public Relations for Toyota Motor North America, will be recognized as the organization's 2018 Communicator of the Year. This prestigious award is presented annually by IABC Detroit and honors a leader who has demonstrated excellence in the communications field. McAllister is a resident of Lake Orion, Michigan.
Guenther explains that this year's awards program differs from past events in several key ways. Immediately following the recognition ceremony, for example, organizations and individuals earning the highest scores will share details about their entries in an awards showcase.
"We added this feature because our members have expressed an interest in learning more about the communications strategy behind the top entries," she said. "Event participants can visit the various tables and talk directly to the award-winners in an informal trade-show-like setting."
Also new this year is the addition of a Halloween superhero afterglow party featuring food, live music from a local DJ, treats and more. Participants can come dressed as their favorite superhero or create one of their own.
The event timing is:
5:30 p.m. – Arrival and informal networking
6 p.m. – Awards presentation
6:45 p.m. – Showcase
7:15 p.m. – Afterglow begins with food, music, costume contest, prizes and more
9 p.m. – Event ends
Tickets for the IABC Detroit Renaissance Awards and Superhero Halloween Bash are still available and are $55 for members and $65 for non-members. Use this link to register for the event.
