IABC Detroit Selects Andy Hetzel as 2014 Communicator of the Year
DETROIT, May 9, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- The Detroit chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC Detroit) has named Andy Hetzel as its 2014 Communicator of the Year. He will be recognized for communications excellence at IABC Detroit's 33rd annual Renaissance Awards June 26 at the Detroit Historical Museum.
Hetzel has served as Vice President of Corporate Communications for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan since 2005, leading a team of communicators who often have been honored at the Renaissance Awards. His responsibilities include brand and reputation management, public relations, advertising, marketing communications, employee communications and social media. His prior experience includes agency public relations and state-level public affairs, including serving as press secretary for the Michigan House of Representatives Democratic Caucus. He also serves on the boards of Detroit PAL and the Area Agency on Aging 1-B.
IABC is an organization of about 15,000 communication professionals in more than 80 countries.
The IABC Detroit Communicator of the Year award honors outstanding contributions to the field of communications. Honorees are selected by a team of senior communicators, including past honorees, in recognition of excellence in:
- professional achievements
- leadership roles
- striving to improve the communications field
- developing or advancing the communications process in a company or organization
- encouraging professionalism and integrity
- creative communications approach
- civic or charitable involvement.
Hetzel is the 26th recipient of the honor, which was initiated in 1989.
