CHICAGO, Feb. 9, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hyundai will share its latest design and technology advancements, along with the all-new HCD-15 Santa Cruz Concept, Tucson Fuel Cell and SEMA vehicles at the Chicago Auto Show.
Making its Chicago debut, Hyundai's innovative Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept reflects a completely new interpretation of truck utility for a new generation of car buyers. Also, for the first time ever, the zero-emissions Tucson Fuel Cell will be driven in Chicago by media attending the Concept & Technology Garage event. The vehicle will also be on display at the Hyundai booth during media and public days of the show. In addition, several of Hyundai's SEMA tuner vehicles will make their Chicago debut this year, celebrating designs from some of the best aftermarket engineers in the industry.
"Hyundai's focus on innovative design, safety and technology continues to forge a path for our current and future products," said Brandon Ramirez, senior group manager, product planning, Hyundai Motor America. "With products like the Tucson Fuel Cell and our Blue Link smartwatch app, we strive to deliver a consistent cadence of advanced technologies to meet the needs of today's customers and provide the highest owner experience."
Hyundai will reveal two new products, including a special edition Veloster, during the Hyundai press conference on Friday, February 13 at 10 a.m. CST.
SANTA CRUZ CROSSOVER TRUCK CONCEPT
Revealed at the 2015 North American International Auto Show in January, Hyundai's groundbreaking Santa Cruz Crossover Truck Concept will make its Chicago debut. This fresh concept appeals to Millennials, whose needs range from expandable utility throughout an active week, from work-life professionalism, to social interests, to a whole variety of outdoor pursuits. This vehicle shatters convention and offers an extension of personality not offered by any other vehicle on the market.
SEMA VEHICLES
Revealed at the annual SEMA Show in Las Vegas last November, Hyundai SEMA tuner vehicles are the result of collaboration with talented artists of the automotive aftermarket world. For this year's Chicago Auto Show, Hyundai will bring five SEMA models, including Blood Type Racing's Genesis Coupe and the Toca Signature Edition Genesis, which were designed and built by Chicagoland tuners.
The full lineup of Hyundai's SEMA vehicles available at the Chicago Auto Show includes:
TUCSON FUEL CELL
The Hyundai Tucson Fuel Cell, the first mass-produced fuel cell vehicle available for consumer lease, will be on display at the Chicago Auto Show for the first time. Hyundai's fuel cell technology effectively replaces the battery pack used in an electric vehicle by generating electricity from hydrogen. This is done through an electrochemical process that does not involve hydrogen combustion, with no moving parts within the fuel cell stack. It alleviates the limitations of traditional battery electric vehicles and maintains the day-to-day flexibility of the gasoline-powered Tucson. Drivers are able to immediately enjoy the next generation of electric vehicles without range, recharge-time or utility compromises.
Hyundai's Tucson Fuel Cell has been available in Southern California since June 10th, 2014, when the first retail customer delivery took place. Eligible customers can lease the Tucson Fuel Cell for just $499 per month, including unlimited free hydrogen refueling and 'At Your Service' valet maintenance at no extra cost.
AT THE CONCEPT & TECHNOLOGY GARAGE
Prior to the press days, Hyundai is participating in the Concept & Technology Garage media event on February 11. Attendees will have an opportunity to test drive the award-winning, zero-emissions Tucson Fuel Cell vehicle. A recent recipient of the Ward's 10 Best Engines accolade, Hyundai's hydrogen fuel cell technology is recognized as one of the most advanced powertrains in the world.
Hyundai will also demo in the 2015 Sonata its latest suite of in-vehicle technologies –an eight-inch navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Hyundai's Blue Link smartwatch app.
