SEOUL, South Korea, Nov. 17, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Ropes & Gray LLP, the first international firm to open an office in Korea, announced today that Hyo Young Kang has joined its corporate group as a partner in the firm's Seoul office.
Mr. Kang brings extensive knowledge and veteran experience to the Ropes & Gray corporate team, having spent 28 years practicing in Asia, with 16 of those years in Seoul. He joins William Kim, the Seoul office managing partner; Jaewoo Lee, a corporate partner who joined the firm in 2013; and IP partner David Chun.
"Hyo Young Kang's impact will be immediate and important," said Mr. Kim. "His many years of on-the-ground experience in the region will serve our corporate clients well, providing additional depth to our counsel on transactional matters and keen insight into business practices in Korea."
Mr. Kang focuses on finance and capital markets, including Regulation S/Rule 144A debt- and equity-linked securities offerings, and has advised on a broad range of commercial transactions, including a number of first-ever international transactions involving Korean entities in capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, project financing, and restructuring.

He has served as a member of the task force of the Ministry of Justice of Korea responsible for amending the Foreign Legal Consultant Act. In addition, Mr. Kang received an official commendation from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of Korea.
"I am excited to join the dynamic team of lawyers at Ropes & Gray," said Mr. Kang.
