Hy-Vee donates 10,000 turkeys in effort to combat hunger

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, Nov. 20, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hy-Vee, a leading grocery store chain with operations in eight Midwestern states, has kicked off its 10-day, 10-city, and 10,000-turkey initiative. The program is aimed at fighting hunger and helping those in need this Thanksgiving season by providing local communities, food banks and shelters with safe, healthy and quality food.
Turkeys have been delivered throughout the Midwest, including: Lincoln, Neb.; Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Sioux City, Iowa; Des Moines, Iowa; Mason City, Iowa; Rochester, Minn.; the Kansas City metro in Mo./Kan.; and the Quad Cities metro in Iowa/Ill. The initiative continues in three more cities: Omaha, Neb.; Sioux Falls, S.D.; and Madison, Wis.

Hy-Vee's donation of 10,000 turkeys equates to 50 tons or 100,000 pounds of turkey which will feed approximately 100,000 people this Thanksgiving.
