San Diego Biotech Firm Commemorates a Decade of Innovation
SAN DIEGO, Nov. 16, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- HUYA Bioscience International (HUYA) just celebrated its 10th anniversary of the company's founding with a black tie gala event on November 13 at the U.S. Grant Hotel in San Diego. The company honored its 10 years of international pharmaceutical innovation and development with live entertainment and video greetings from colleagues and key opinion leaders in Japan and China.
HUYA is the leader in accelerating the global development of pharmaceutical innovation from China. The company was founded by Dr. Mireille Gillings, who has over 22 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. During her travels in China Dr. Gillings saw the potential to promote China as a center of drug development. At the time, the global pharmaceutical industry often overlooked China as a site for groundbreaking pharmaceutical research – but Gillings and her HUYA team developed strong relationships with talented Chinese scientists and research organizations to support her overall vision.
In the 10 years since its founding, HUYA has advanced the global development of novel oncology and cardiovascular drugs licensed from China. This includes employing the principles of the Tripartite Cooperation Treaty between China, Japan and South Korea to use clinical data from China to initiate drug development for the Company's lead drug HBI-8000 in Japan for lymphoma. HUYA now owns the world's largest database of Chinese pharmaceutical compounds, has offices in 8 Chinese cities and Japan, and is conducting international clinical trials for a new innovative oncology drug that originated and is approved in China.
As part of the HUYA team's mission to develop new treatments for cancer, the company announced that they have donated $20,000 to Breast Cancer Angels, a nonprofit organization that provides financial and emotional assistance to breast cancer patients and their families. Representatives from the Breast Cancer Angels organization were in attendance at the HUYA gala event, where they received a donation and shared their experiences with the guests at the event.
"The entire HUYA team is excited to celebrate 10 years of groundbreaking success in bringing new drug treatments from China to the world," said Mireille Gillings, Ph.D., HUYA's founder, CEO & Executive Chairman. "We look forward to building on this foundation of our first 10 years, with many exciting new discoveries to come."
