Huntington Hospital Celebrates Prestigious Magnet® Re-designation for Nursing Excellence
PASADENA, Calif., Nov. 19, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Huntington Hospital has once again received national recognition for excellence in nursing from the American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®. Considered the gold standard, Magnet designation is the highest recognition for nursing excellence and patient outcomes. Awarded by the credentialing arm of the American Nurses Association, less than eight percent of hospitals worldwide have earned this prestigious designation.
"We are honored to receive Magnet recognition from the ANCC, and it is with great admiration and pride that I congratulate our nurses and our entire team on this well-deserved award," said Stephen A. Ralph, president and CEO, Huntington Hospital. "Magnet re-designation is evidence of our continued commitment to – and demonstration of - nursing excellence that provides the highest quality of care to our community."
Studies show that hospitals with Magnet status have lower mortality and infection rates, as well as higher patient satisfaction and nurse staffing levels. To earn Magnet designation, hospitals must meet stringent standards for quality, patient care, nursing excellence and innovation in professional nursing. Huntington Hospital earned its first Magnet designation four years ago. Re-designation is an even more rigorous process, requiring a center to provide evidence that Magnet standards have been both met and exceeded during the four-year period since the last designation. Nurses at all levels of practice were involved in the re-designation process, demonstrating their involvement in every aspect of health care delivery.
"Our Magnet designation reflects the high-level of compassionate care and expertise of the nursing team at Huntington Hospital," said Gloria Sanchez-Rico, vice president and chief nurse executive.
"Our nurses have been given the opportunity through Magnet's shared decision making model to create the best possible environment to care for patients. Various nursing councils provide ongoing forums for nurses to directly influence decisions that guide the hospitals' practice of nursing and strengthen our ability to deliver safe, evidenced-based care. I am extremely proud to be a nurse at Huntington Hospital, where we are recognized for ongoing nursing excellence. On behalf of our nurses, I'd like to thank our staff, our physicians and our community for their support that helped us earn this highly-valued award for the second time."
