Huntington Hospital Awarded New Certification From The Joint Commission
PASADENA, Calif., Jan. 20, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Huntington Memorial Hospital has earned The Joint Commission's Gold Seal of Approval™ for its total hip and knee replacement programs by demonstrating compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards for healthcare quality and safety in disease-specific care. The certification award recognizes Huntington's dedication to continuous compliance with The Joint Commission's national standards.
Huntington Hospital underwent a rigorous on-site survey this past December when a Joint Commission surveyor evaluated the hospital's compliance with the standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, care leadership and medication management.
"In achieving Joint Commission certification, Huntington Hospital has demonstrated its commitment to the highest quality level of care for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery," says Connie Boyd, executive director of the neuroscience and orthopedic programs. "We are one of only four other facilities in California to achieve this status and I commend our orthopedic team for undertaking this challenge and elevating the standard of care we provide our community."
Orthopedic surgeons Paul Gilbert, MD, and Todd Dietrick, MD, served as physician leads as the hospital prepared for the certification survey. "With Joint Commission certification we are making a significant investment in quality for our patients on a day-to-day basis," said Gilbert.
Dietrick stated, "Joint Commission accreditation provides us an opportunity to take orthopedic surgery at Huntington Hospital to the next level and helps promote a culture of excellence."
The Joint Commission's Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, launched in 2002, was designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. Certification requirements address three core areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
