HOUSTON, May 27, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunting PLC announced that it has presented a check in the amount of $150,000 to Patriot PAWS Service Dogs, an organization dedicated to inspiring and restoring the physical and emotional independence of disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities by providing service dogs at no cost.
The gift was made as part of the oilfield service company's long-standing tradition of supporting a single Texas-based charity through a donation made on behalf of the Hunting Art Prize, the most generous annual art competition in North America for painting and drawing. Kevin Peterson's piece titled Fire won this year's $50,000 award.
Announcement of Hunting's donation marks the second consecutive year the company has supported Patriot PAWS, which provides extensive training to service dogs to teach them a wide range of functions, from pulling wheelchairs and opening and closing doors, to picking up and retrieving items and supporting patients with post-traumatic stress disorder.
The two-year training program costs roughly $27,000 for each service dog. Through Hunting's contribution in 2014, the nonprofit was able to acquire and begin training five new service dogs named Hunter, Drill Bit, London, Reckless, and Blue Bell.
"Mere words cannot convey the incredible value this organization is providing to the disabled men and women who have so proudly served our country," said Dennis Proctor, Chief Executive of Hunting PLC. "We are pleased to continue our support of Patriot PAWS and are honored to have the opportunity to help them further their efforts for those in need."
Patriot PAWS has placed 92 service dogs with disabled American veterans and others with mobile disabilities since its inception in 2006. However, 134 are still waiting for their companion.
"Hunting has left an indelible mark on our organization by giving us the ability to establish a new – and higher – level of charitable action," said Lori Stevens, Founder and Executive Director of Patriot PAWS. "They have given us the opportunity to provide several richly deserving individuals with the chance to have a better life, and for that, we are forever grateful."
Since 2006, when the Hunting Art Prize moved to Houston after a quarter-century in the United Kingdom, Hunting has contributed more than $1.2 million to underserved nonprofits in Texas.
