The United States Conference of Mayors 79th Annual Meeting
WASHINGTON, May 23, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The nation's mayors, led by Conference President and Burnsville, MN Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, will gather in Baltimore, MD from Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 20, for the 79th Annual Meeting of The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), to be hosted by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake.

During the meeting, mayors from all over the country will come together to discuss public policy issues impacting residents in cities large and small. The economy, job creation, transportation, high-speed rail, homeland security, immigration and energy efficiency top this year's agenda. On the final day of the meeting, the mayors will debate and vote on policy resolutions to forward to Congress and the Administration with the goal of shaping federal legislation.
Featured speakers include: House of Representatives Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (Fri); MD Governor Martin O'Malley, Arianna Huffington of the Huffington Post Media Group (Sat); and U.S. Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Tom Donohue (Mon).
Also on Monday, June 21, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, will be inaugurated as the new President of The United States Conference of Mayors. As the President of the Conference, Mayor Villaraigosa will set the Conference's agenda, appoint committee and task force chairs and serve as the national spokesperson for the organization for the next year (June 2011 to June 2012).
The U.S. Conference of Mayors is the official nonpartisan organization of cities with populations of 30,000 or more. There are 1, 210 such cities in the country today, and each city is represented in the Conference by its chief elected official, the mayor.
