Fri., June 17 - Mon., June 20: The United States Conference of Mayors 79th Annual Meeting
WASHINGTON, June 7, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The nation's mayors, led by Conference President and Burnsville, MN Mayor Elizabeth Kautz, will gather in Baltimore from Friday, June 17 to Monday, June 20, for the 79th Annual Meeting of The United States Conference of Mayors (USCM), to be hosted by Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings Blake. On Monday, June 20, Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, will be inaugurated as the new President of The Conference.

During the meeting, mayors from all over the country will come together to discuss public policy issues impacting cities. Job creation, transportation, homeland security, immigration and energy efficiency top this year's agenda. On the final day of the meeting, the mayors will debate and vote on resolutions including one to speed up the end of the Afghanistan War and redirect war dollars to key domestic needs, as well as a resolution opposing last in-first out (LIFO) practices in public education.
