Hundreds of Popcornflix™ Feature Films Now Available Free on Xbox
Xbox Lifts Live Gold Membership Paywall Making Popcornflix Available FREE to Huge Audience
NEW YORK, June 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Microsoft's elimination of the $59 Xbox Live Gold membership fee is giving some 20+ million users of the leading gaming system direct free access to hundreds of free full-length movies on the Popcornflix™ and FrightPix™ FREE streaming media apps for Xbox in the U.S. and Canada.
"We're thrilled to see Microsoft tearing down the Xbox Live Gold paywall, giving their users unprecedented access to Popcornflix's large library of popular films featuring stars like Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Zack Galifianakis, Leonardo DiCaprio and more," said David Fannon, executive vice president at Popcornflix. "Even better, unlike other channels that still charge an additional monthly subscription fee, Popcornflix movies are—and always will be—free of charge to viewers on Xbox and any other streaming platform."
Previously, Xbox required owners to purchase a monthly Live Gold membership just to access the digital streaming apps, in addition to any subscription fees to access content on each channel. Now, users can access streaming apps free, but will continue to pay the subscription fee for most channel apps, but not for Popcornflix and Frightpix which are always FREE.
"Consumers are coming to expect free content accessibility and they increasingly demand the ease and convenience of watching favorite movies and TV shows on their own schedule and on their preferred device," says Fannon. "Our expansive content library makes Popcornflix uniquely positioned to deliver a great movie-viewing experience for millions of Xbox owners."
