Hundreds of Patient/Health Organizations Show Their Support for 21st Century Cures Act
Legislation Will Greatly Improve the Nation's Innovation Ecosystem
WASHINGTON, June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- More than 250 nonprofit organizations representing patients, family caregivers, health care providers, and researchers joined with the National Health Council in signing a letter of support for the 21st Century Cures Act. The House of Representatives is expected to vote on the legislation prior to the Fourth of July Congressional Recess.
"This bill is based on the hard work and thoughtful recommendations of the entire health community," the letter said. "This is a patient-focused bill that will advance the discovery and development of treatments, strengthen the patient voice in the regulatory environment, increase funding for the National Institutes of Health and Food and Drug Administration, and greatly improve our innovation ecosystem."
The letter also pointed out the legislation has support from both sides of the Congressional aisle, "Just as Democrats and Republicans have come together to craft a bipartisan bill that cleared the House Energy and Commerce Committee with a unanimous vote, so, too, do we affirm our support of this game-changing legislation."
