Hundreds Expected to Attend Student Showcase at Capitol Plaza
MONTPELIER, Vt., Jan. 17, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- David Kelly, local lawyer and school choice advocate, will headline a student showcase and day at the Capitol Plaza beginning at 10:30 a.m. and ending at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 24 in Montpelier. A press conference will begin at 11:15 in the Cedar Creek Room of the Vermont State House.
More than 300 students, teachers, parents and legislators will all gather to recognize the importance of school choice in Vermont. The event kicks off at 10:30 a.m. in the Capital Theater and will feature contest results with recognition of excellence for independent schools all across Vermont. Prizes will be awarded to schools, teachers, parents and kids based on contest entries and nominations by colleagues. The event will also feature an official National School Choice photograph taken on the historic Statehouse lawn, snow-covered of course.
This event is planned to coincide with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2019, which will feature more than 40,000 school choice events across all 50 states.
"National School Choice Week celebration recognizes a 150-year history of tuitioning and school choice in Vermont," said Brad Ferland, one of the lead organizers of this event. "School choice has offered thousands of Vermont children an opportunity to learn and flourish in an environment that is most suited for their talents and needs."
The event, which has bipartisan support from Vermonters from across the state, is organized by a coalition of citizens, stakeholder groups, schools and students.
As a nonpartisan, nonpolitical public awareness effort, National School Choice Week shines a positive spotlight on effective education options for students, families, and communities around the country. From January 20 through 26, 2019, more than 40,000 independently-planned events will be held in celebration of the Week. For more information, visit www.schoolchoiceweek.com.
