Hujiang EdTech CEO Arnold Fu Gives Keynote Address At 2017 WISE Awards
Fu also heralds 'The Revolution In Education' That Innovative Educational & Tech Companies Are Driving Around the World
DOHA, Qatar, Nov. 20, 2017 PRNewswire/ -- Arnold Fu, founder & CEO of Hujiang EdTech ("Hujiang" or "the company"), China's leading online education company, gave the keynote address, entitled "The Revolution In Education" at this year's World Innovation Summit for Education (WISE) in Doha where he declared that innovative education technology companies are powering a sea change in the way that children are learning and economies are developing around the world. He held up winners of this year's 2017 WISE Awards (the Awards), where he served as the only Chinese juror, as prime examples of this movement.
Speaking to the attendees at WISE, which unites experts across multiple sectors with the aim of inspiring creative solutions to educational challenges, Fu laid out his vision for a world of interconnected companies that can collaborate across borders and cultures to support and benefit from each other, driving change across the globe.
In his speech, Arnold also spoke about his company's "Hu+(Hujia) Project," which aims to redress the imbalance in rural vs. urban education by sharing courses through the Internet and second-hand computers. Using software called CCtalk, kids from rural areas learn lessons that have been "donated" by famous school teachers in big cities. "The Hu+ project acts as a bridge, connecting donors and beneficiaries. In the past two years, the Project has linked more than 2,000 rural schools in China, benefitting over 1 million students," said Arnold Fu.
In addition to his role as a keynote speaker, Mr. Fu served as the only Chinese juror for the 2017 WISE Awards. The BBC referred to the awards as "The Nobel prize for education" - this year's six winners were recognized for projects that provide innovative solutions to urgent education challenges. They included ideas ranging from an engaging education solution promoting science and math literacy through interactive simulations, to a mentorship program that supports education and employment opportunities for young women in rural areas in Africa. "I'm very honored to have been a member of the jury for the 2017 WISE Awards," said Fu. "I recognize kindred spirits among each of the winners, as they offer innovative approaches to education challenges, make positive impacts on society and have great potential to expand their businesses all around the world.
Fu further said, "Hujiang was created as a non-profit BBS because I saw that many young people were driven to study online due to a lack of educational resources. When I decided to turn it into a start-up, nobody believed that it would work. Because of this, I feel that it is very important that we recognize and support innovators and companies that are driving the revolution in education that is spreading around the world." Now Hujiang has become the largest online education platform in the world, with an audience of over 160 million users that is valued at more than $1.6 billion.
Arnold's speech was greatly appreciated audience. Isaac Otchere, Executive Director of Action on African Women Foundation, expressed his willingness to become a partner of Hujiang in Ghana. He believed that Hujiang's developed online volunteer teaching mode could help to promote equal education in Ghana. "It is amazing that the Hu+ Project is able to find a method to redress the imbalance of rural education," said Chris Macrae, a British businessman, hoping his team could participate in Hujiang's online teaching project to help Chinese students learn English.
