HUGHES Wins State of Oregon Satellite Services Contract
SPACEWAY® 3 Satellite System Offers Resiliency, High-Availability Networks to Support Government Operations
GERMANTOWN, Md., June 14 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the global leader in broadband satellite networks and services, today announced that it has been awarded an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract by the State of Oregon to provide Hughes Broadband Internet and Access Continuity services via its SPACEWAY 3 satellite system. The contract, available to state agencies, local governments, and school districts that are members of the Oregon Cooperative Purchasing Program, is for a term of three years and may be extended up to three additional years.
"Hughes is delighted for the opportunity to provide satellite services to the State of Oregon and its public sector entities," said Tony Bardo, assistant vice president for government solutions at Hughes. "Oregon, like all states, is trying to maximize its resources and find ways to operate more effectively as it serves its citizens. With this contract, the State of Oregon has expanded the networking potential for its public sector in three key ways: enabling the cost-effective delivery of the high-bandwidth applications that are increasingly necessary to carry out the day-to-day operations of government; providing a resilient networking option if land-based networks fail; and delivering broadband service to public sector entities that currently cannot access it -- a problem shared by 20% of all Oregon households."
Under the terms of the contract (Number 9960), State of Oregon and public sector entities may purchase the following services to be delivered via the Hughes SPACEWAY 3 satellite system:
- Broadband Internet, including downlink speeds of up to five (5) Mbps and uplink speeds of up to one (1) Mbps
- Full turnkey help desk support for Internet access
- Optional Internet Protocol (IP) Virtual Private Network (VPN) connectivity to provide videoconferencing, Voice over IP (VoIP), data sharing and applications, and content distribution for remote software upgrades.
Bardo added, "We look forward to working with the State of Oregon's agencies, local governments, and educational institutions to incorporate satellite broadband into areas such as emergency preparedness, remote communications, telework, telemedicine, and distance education, enabling them to leverage existing government resources and improve service to citizens."
