Highlighting this year's seminar were the latest developments in Ka-band satellite technology and services, including advanced dual Ka/Ku-band HN Systems and terminals, along with HX System 'broadband-on-the-move' solutions for maritime, aeronautical, and trains.
"Hughes has been committed to the Asia/Pacific marketplace since its early days and has established a wide and varied customer base," said Vaibhav Magow, regional manager for Asia/Pacific at Hughes. "Together with our service providers in the region, we are bringing our superior broadband satellite solutions to a growing number of customers in the enterprise and government/public sectors, helping to close the digital divide and grow their local economies."
Aris Iskandar Musa, head of Product Development/Solutions & Sales at Numix Engineering Sdn Bhd, a leading telecommunications and network services company in Malaysia, presented an overview of its satellite-related solutions which include Internet and telephony, customized private networks, and back up and maritime solutions.
"Numix has been working with Hughes for the past three years, operating both HN and HX Systems," said Musa. "We chose Hughes as a partner for several reasons including the cost-effective and bandwidth efficient solutions Hughes provides. In addition, due to the ACM (Adaptive Coding Modulation) feature of Hughes technology, we are able to operate very high availability networks. We also were very interested in the support for mobility on both the HN and HX Systems."
Hughes continues to remain the undisputed leader in the global VSAT market, consistently holding more than 50 percent market share according to the latest COMSYS VSAT report. In 2010 Hughes shipped a record of over 320,000 broadband satellite terminals globally and crossed the 2.5 million mark cumulatively.
