Huge News from the UK: E-cigarettes More Effective than NRT for Smoking Cessation
LONDON, May 21, 2014 /PRNewswire/ --
In a huge announcement for the industry, E-cigarettes have been shown by the UK's most expert team in smoking cessation to be at least 60% better than over-the-counter NRT at helping smokers quit.
A study carried out by a team from University College London - based on a survey to nearly 6000 people that quit smoking between 2009 and 2011 - found that e-cigarettes are more effective than nicotine replacement therapies on the efforts of people to stop smoking.
The senior author of the study, Professor Robert West of the department of epidemiology and public health, said that it was extremely important to find out the effectiveness of electronic cigarettes as a quitting tool. "It really could affect literally millions of lives. We need to know," he said.
West then added, "It is one piece of the jigsaw and not a final answer"..."It may be different in different countries. If it [use of e-cigarettes for quitting] continues to grow, we will expect a public health benefit." To hear more about these issues and the ongoing impacts of these studies in e-cigarettes, join the eCig Europe: Industry Conference taking place in Nice, France, 16th-18th June 2014.
