Hudson Institute Welcomes Jon Lerner and Robert Spalding as Senior Fellows
WASHINGTON, Feb. 20, 2019 /PRNewswire/ -- Hudson Institute announced today that Jon Lerner and Robert Spalding have joined the Institute's policy team as senior fellows. Lerner will pursue a research program on U.S. foreign policy, and Spalding will examine U.S.-China relations and American technological and economic leadership.

Jon Lerner
Jon Lerner joins Hudson Institute as senior fellow, focusing on U.S. foreign policy. Lerner most recently served in the Trump administration as deputy to former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley. In that capacity, he served on the Deputies Committee of the National Security Council, responsible for crafting administration positions on a full range of foreign policy issues with emphasis on actions at the United Nations. After managing two U.S. senate campaigns, Lerner founded a polling and advertising company that grew to become one of the leading political consulting, survey research, and advertising firms in America. He has helped elect more than two dozen U.S. senators, members of Congress, and governors, and held senior positions on two presidential campaigns.
Robert Spalding
Robert Spalding joins Hudson Institute as senior fellow, focusing on U.S.-China relations and American technological and economic leadership. He recently served as senior director for strategic planning at the National Security Council, working as chief architect of the framework for national competition in the Trump administration's National Security Strategy (NSS). He has served in senior positions of strategy and diplomacy within the Defense and State Departments for over 25 years and is an accomplished innovator in government and a national security policy strategist. Spalding has been a senior defense official and defense attaché to China in Beijing; chief China strategist for the chairman of the Joint Chiefs; and a military fellow at the Council of Foreign Relations. He is fluent in Mandarin Chinese.
