Hudson to Lead Measurement and Accountability Efforts of New Health Commitments Made by Top Global Candy Companies
WASHINGTON, May 12, 2017 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Hudson Institute, in an initiative led by Senior Fellow Hank Cardello, has been selected to lead the measurement and accountability efforts of major new commitments made by five leading global chocolate and candy companies, including Mars Chocolate, Wrigley, Nestlé USA, Ferrero, Lindt, Ghirardelli, Russell Stover, and Ferrara Candy Company. Hank Cardello's accountability initiative was recently announced at the 2017 Partnership for a Healthier America Summit as part of a comprehensive commitment to increase the transparency of calories on package labeling and by providing portion guidance. Cardello will produce three reports tracking progress in achieving the following key goals:
- That 90 percent of the best-selling candies made by these companies will have calorie information printed on the front of the pack
- That half of the individually wrapped products made by the participating companies will be available in sizes that contain 200 calories or less per pack
