Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. Announces the Passing of Ronald E. Hermance, Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
PARAMUS, N.J., Sept. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- It is with great sadness that Hudson City Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: HCBK) (the "Company"), announces that Ronald E. Hermance Jr., Chairman and Chief Executive Officer passed away unexpectedly last evening.
Ron's leadership and vision guided Hudson City for over 26 years. He spearheaded Hudson City Savings Bank's reorganization from a mutual savings bank to a publicly-held Company by completing what was at the time, the largest equity public offering by a U.S. bank. Most importantly, the lives of many people were enriched by Ron during his extraordinary life. He was a mentor to so many people both within and outside of the Bank. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.
Ron's career spanned 26 years at Hudson City. In 1997, he became the eleventh president in the history of Hudson City Savings Bank and was appointed Chief Executive Officer in 2002 and Chairman of the Board in 2005. He also served on the boards of directors of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York, Valley Hospital in Ridgewood and St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York, his alma mater.
Ron was actively involved in his community. His many affiliations included the YMCA of Ridgewood, St. Elizabeth's Church, the Holley Center for Children, Family Counseling of Ridgewood, the Chapel of the Good Shepherd in Chautauqua, New York and Notre Dame High School in Batavia, New York, his alma mater.
