International experts discuss ecological protection in China
GUIYANG, China, July 8, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- Over 1,000 renowned Chinese and foreign experts gathered in Guiyang, China to share their opinions and expertise at the Eco Forum Global (EFG) Annual Conference 2016, which was held today. The event was co-sponsored by huanqiu.com, the main overseas PR partner.
Nobel Prize laureates, heads of international organizations as well as presidents of prestigious worldwide universities were among the academic-filled attendance list and of the 1,000 experts over 400 were from overseas.
The forum this year showcased China's specific practices on ecological civilization construction, and set up a platform for dialogues and strategic cooperation between China and the rest of the world. China's role as an advocator and practitioner in tackling climate change was also highlighted.
Boasting a forest coverage rate of 49 percent, Guizhou province, the venue of the 2016 EFG Annual Conference, is known as a "grand eco-park". However, the southwestern province also faces the arduous task of poverty alleviation as it still has more than 6 million people living below the poverty line.
"Guizhou must maintain a relatively rapid growth rate, but it cannot be at the expense of the ecological environment," said Chen Miner, Party Secretary-General of the province. "We must transform the economic growth pattern and pursue a development path featuring resource conservation and environmental protection."
The EFG is the only state-level forum approved by the Chinese government dedicated to ecological civilization. It is a concrete action taken by China to demonstrate its "green development" concept.
