HRH Crown Prince Haakon of Norway to Deliver Closing Remarks for 2013 HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Operation HOPE, the leading global financial dignity nonprofit, announced today that His Royal Highness (HRH) Crown Prince Haakon of Norway will deliver the closing remarks to the 2013 HOPE Global Financial Dignity Summit (Summit) in Atlanta on November 14. HRH Crown Prince Haakon participated in the 2012 HOPE Summit, leading a panel discussion on the importance of respect and human dignity as a Global Dignity Day activity during the summit.
HRH Prince Haakon's visit to the birth place of the civil rights movement and participation in the Summit intersects with the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. receiving the Nobel Peace Prize in Norway. The historical connection between Norway and the efforts of civil rights leaders will be highlighted during a special part of the event program.
"HRH Crown Prince Haakon is a friend and I am grateful that he has agreed to deliver closing remarks to our 2013 HOPE Summit," said John Hope Bryant, Operation HOPE chairman, founder and CEO. "He instinctively understands the core principles of Operation HOPE and embodies our message of global inclusion and economic empowerment for underserved populations."
HRH Crown Prince Haakon is a long-time partner and supporter of Operation HOPE's international efforts, particularly his partnership with HOPE founder, chairman and CEO John Hope Bryant and Professor Pekka Himanen with the foundation of Global Dignity. HRH Crown Prince Haakon is expected to touch on the themes of global inclusion and dignity during his closing remarks.
HRH Crown Prince Haakon is the heir apparent to the throne of Norway and the son of the current King, Harald V. He is a member of the House of Schleswig-Holstein-Sonderburg-Glücksburg, which is a branch of the House of Oldenburg. He became crown prince when his father ascended to the throne in 1991. The Crown Prince is Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme, where he particularly focuses on promoting the Millennium Developmental Goals. Should he ascend as expected, he will be known as Haakon VIII.
In partnership with the City of Atlanta, the two-day summit, Global Economic Recovery: How The Poor Can Help Save Capitalism, will be moderated by Soledad O'Brien and frame the issue of financial inclusion, small business, entrepreneurship, jobs, and financial dignity as essential core ingredients to mid and long-term economic recovery and stability. It is expected to draw 1,000 of the most dynamic and influential financial industry professionals, government decision-makers and faith leaders from more than 50 countries around the world.
The annual HOPE Summit will serve also as the staging area for the gathering of commitments for business role models, business internships, youth entrepreneurship business grants, and other commitments for action in underserved communities.
