WASHINGTON, April 21, 2014 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Workshops on small business lending, securing federal contracts, expanding international trade locally, and remarks from H&R Block founder Henry W. Bloch are among the top draws planned for the May 13 National Small Business Week event in Kansas City.
Every year since 1963, the U.S. Small Business Administration takes the opportunity to highlight through National Small Business Week the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others from all 50 states and U.S territories. This year, in addition to other SBA regional and local small business week events being held—Kansas City, along with San Francisco, Boston and Washington, D.C. were selected to host one of the four national events.
The Kansas City National Small Business Week event will be held at the Burns and McDonnell World Headquarters at 9400 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Registration and a networking breakfast will begin at 8 a.m.
Local business and civic leaders will kick off the morning with a panel discussion on the goal of making Kansas City "The Most Entrepreneurial City"—a location for launching and expanding innovative, high-growth companies.
Later in the morning, the ultimate small business success story—the growth and worldwide expansion of the tax preparation firm H & R Block—will be shared by 91-year old founder Henry W. Bloch and his son Tom Bloch, former H & R Block CEO.
The day's breakout sessions will focus on developing Kansas City as an international trading hub, small business matchmaking, tips on becoming a bankable firm, getting federal contracts, and growing your business.
