HPRA Miami Launches Scholarship Program for Florida Students
Program to benefit Hispanic undergraduate students pursuing careers in communications and marketing fields
MIAMI, June 18, 2015 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Hispanic Public Relations Association's Miami Chapter (http://hpra-usa.org/miamiR/) (HPRA Miami) has announced the launch of its HPRA-MIA Scholarship program. Beginning June 16 through September 8, South Florida area college students of Hispanic descent will have the opportunity to file applications to be recognized for their outstanding undergraduate academic achievement and community service.
"The HPRA Miami chapter is proud to be able to offer this scholarship program to Hispanic students in Florida," said Sonia Diaz, president of HPRA-MIA. "With Miami serving as the gateway to Latin America and the hub of Spanish-language media, we have a unique responsibility to ensure and support the success of Hispanic communications professionals in the South Florida region."
The HPRA-MIA scholarships will be awarded to three qualified undergraduate students. Recipients will receive a $2500, $1500, or a $1000 scholarship. In addition, the winners will receive complimentary student memberships to HPRA-MIA for one calendar year and one-on-one mentorship from some of Miami's leading Hispanic communications and marketing professionals. The program is open to resident students of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami Dade and Monroe Counties and can be applied to any Florida public or private university.
The application deadline is Monday, September 8, 2015. Call-for-entries is now open.
In order to qualify, student applicants must:
- Be a resident of Palm Beach, Broward, Miami Dade or Monroe counties
- Attend a Florida based, four-year accredited college or university at the freshman, sophomore or junior level
- Be of Hispanic heritage
- On a 4.0 scale, maintain a minimum 3.3 cumulative GPA
- Major in public relations, communications, journalism, advertising and/or marketing
