Hoya Announces Second Quarter Financial Results
TOKYO, November 5, 2010 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- HOYA Corporation today announced financial results for the second quarter ended September 30, 2010. Net sales were up 0.2% to 107,075 million yen year-on-year, and operating income rose 0.3% to 18,768 million yen. Net income was up 24.5% to 12,891 million yen, and earnings per share were 29.88 yen compared with 23.91 yen in the same period last year.
During the quarter, HOYA group's production and shipments were higher compared with those for the same quarter last year, although sales were significantly affected by lower product prices and the appreciation of the yen.
"At constant currency, we see a double-digit growth in many divisions in the Life Care segment," said Hiroshi Suzuki, chief executive officer of HOYA. "I believe we are on the right track in the businesses including eyeglass lenses, intraocular lenses and contact lenses."
For the first six months of this fiscal year ended September 30, 2010, net sales were 212,667 million yen, up 5.4% year-on-year, and operating income rose 38.9% to 38,907 million yen. Net income amounted to 33,916 million yen, up 138.8% year-on-year basis, and earnings per share for the period were 78.62 yen compared with 32.81 yen in the same period last year.
