NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Sept. 14, 2017 /PRNewswire/ -- Until recently, Jonathan Billiot's day was filled with the "to-dos" of his job including addressing emails, case designs, and communications with other team members at Ark Financial Group, Austin, Texas. But Jonathan and a group of his peers just attended a "Connecting with People" workshop. During the workshop, speaker Lynnette Ward of Leadership Choice helped Jonathan and other attendees realize how communication is a "business tool". Ward outlined how to recognize different communication patterns, specifically through listening and modify how to respond. You could see the "ah-ha" moments across the attendees' faces as Ward pointed out how the same techniques help avoid conflict or misunderstanding in email communications. Sabrina Straley of Infinity Wealth Management, Schaumberg, Illinois, summed up her key takeaway as, "Email is, perhaps, one of the biggest mediums that we use in our day-to-day interactions in the workplace. It was beneficial to learn how to respond according to the sender's communication style."
Returning to his job as a paraplanner at Ark Financial Group, Billiot put the lesson to work, "I am more aware of how I communicate with my colleagues on a day-to-day basis. I found myself rewriting emails that I thought, prior to the workshop, would have been okay to send."
The "Connecting with People" workshop was just a part of First Financial Resources' 2017 FFR University held at Peséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, California. The 3-day professional development event is held each August for staff at First Financial Resources (FFR) member offices. This year's theme, "Go-Direct, Keep Control" balanced off the curriculum with insurance industry presenters covering product features and niches, underwriting specialties, and using technology to gain business efficiencies. FFR's business model gives FFR advisors direct access to its core insurance carriers. That way, the FFR advisor keeps control over which product and/or underwriting offer best fits a client's needs. The FFR University is an integral component in support of the "go-direct, keep control" business model.
Jonathan summed up the impact of the 2017 FFR University with "Without a doubt, the information I received and the relationships I've built at FFR University will help our firm to continue to improve our ability to go-direct and keep control."
